Private Online Painting and Drawing Classes

These online private lessons are offered as a bundle of sessions (minimum of five), held on Zoom and tailored to each student’s individual goals, experience level, and interests. Students may choose to focus on either drawing or painting, working in a way that best supports their current practice, whether as a complete beginner or a more advanced artist.

Each lesson is structured around two core ideas: cultivating a new way of seeing and practicing accuracy in what you observe. We move through targeted exercises that address the fundamental components of drawing and painting, including color, light, composition, value, and representation, while adapting the pace and focus to your specific needs.

Rather than following a fixed curriculum, lessons evolve through ongoing dialogue and feedback. Foundational skills are introduced and reinforced as needed, then applied toward the kinds of images and subjects that interest you, whether working from observation, memory, or imagination. This allows for a gradual shift from guided study to more self-directed work.

The bundle format is designed to support sustained progress over time, creating continuity between sessions and allowing for deeper development. Alongside technical growth, these lessons aim to build confidence and independence, making it possible to maintain a consistent practice in your own environment, whether at home or while traveling.

Please note: Workshop registrations are non-refundable.

Meet Your Instructor

Cropped Bio Headshot Portrait Profile (4)

Kelsey Shwetz is a New York-based painter and educator whose classes invite students into a deeper way of seeing and expressing the world around them. With an MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University, where she is currently an instructor of Painting, and a teaching record that spans Pratt Institute, LaGuardia Community College, Educational Alliance NYC, and Kent State, Kelsey brings both deep technical knowledge and a warm, accessible teaching style to the studio.

In class, two approaches are emphasized: creating a new way of seeing, and practicing accuracy in what you see. Students move through exercises that develop creativity and work through the fundamental technical components of making a painting. Each class builds upon the tools developed from the previous class so students come away with a comprehensive understanding of art making, rather than a step-by-step formula. In the context of a small group setting, students work together to not only increase technical proficiency and achieve specific goals, but to develop the confidence to make art anywhere the mood strikes.
